Q. Staining of the Swimming Pool
- Stains can, and do reduce the attractiveness of a swimming pool.
- Testing and maintaining the water chemistry to avoid these problems
Causes:
- Corrosion of pools metal hardware due to low pH
- High pH
- High alkalinity
- Dissolved metals
Remedies:
- Adjust pH to 7.2 - 7.8
- Adjust total alkalinity
- Check with your pool chemical dealer about: Using chelating materials or acid washing your pool
Q. Why is there a white build up on the edge of the pool?
A. These marks can be caused by a number of reasons including:
- Calcium carbonate deposits caused by excessively hard water
- Accumulation of dissolved solids
- pH too high
- Total Alkalinity too high
These marks need to be removed as soon as possible. You need to:
- Adjust pH to 7.2 - 7.8
- Adjust total alkalinity
- Wash the side of the pool above the water lines with an acid wash.
